There are times when looking for a new home can be an exercise in frustration.

That’s because with builders going all-in on the latest design trends a high percentage of show homes often look similar to each other in terms of their decor and colour palette.

Consequently, after hours of looking at different yet similar combinations of greys, off-whites and taupes displayed in different envelopes, prospective home buyers tend to lapse into a bored brain fog that leaves them longing for something different.

Artistic yet practical, this roomy two-bedroom, two-bath bungalow offers a seamless synergy of classic and modern design features.

Maric Homes has answered that call with their new show home at 272 Yellow Moon Cres. in Sage Creek, says the sales representative for the 1,733 square-foot bungalow, Steven Crampton.

“It’s a bold design,” he says. “Maric wanted to push the boundaries and do something different and show the flexibility we have in our designs. The use of different materials in this home shows the possibilities of what we can do.”

Those different materials come to the forefront the moment you step into the home’s generous, welcoming foyer.

Instead of off-white walls, you’re greeted by a cantilevered bench with a lit, three-tiered display niche next to a coat closet with an espresso-stained maple sliding door and adjacent espresso maple paneling.

Then, there’s the flooring, which most certainly isn’t luxury vinyl plank flooring, or even engineered oak hardwoods.

The main living area starts off with a spacious, flexible dining area that’s ideal for entertaining or enjoying dinner with the family.

“It’s actually a grey micro cement. It’s modern yet warm, and works well with the darker wood tones, black window trim and dark baseboards,” notes Crampton. “The overall idea was to create a seamless blend of classic design and modern elegance.”

Mission accomplished, as the home’s open-concept main living area is both navigable and warm at the same time.

A spacious dining area at the front provides plenty of space to seat up to 10 guests without missing a beat, while an inviting family room to its rear makes a cozy spot to sit back and visit after dinner.

“If you’re visiting with company and don’t want to see the TV, it can be closed off by a sliding maple panel that blends in with the rest of the paneling on the wall,” he says. “A gas fireplace with grey cement surround adds a modern touch, and a large window and oversized sliding patio door – it leads out to a large backyard deck – let in tons of natural light on sunny days.”

Then, there’s the adjacent island kitchen, which is a stunning yet practical work of art.

A perfectly isolated retreat, the primary bedroom is the essence of modern style and function.

“This is where the use of different materials comes in,” says Crampton. “LED strip lighting was built into wooden beams that run along the ceiling over the island, and on its side wall. Then, granite with a titanium leathered finish was used to give the island and countertops a nice little bit of wow factor. Black cabinets and a quartzite backsplash add the perfect finishing touch.”

A hallway to the right of the eye-catching kitchen then leads to the home’s bedroom wing.

“It starts off with a doorway that takes you into an amazing laundry/mudroom with a bench, tons of storage, plus a sink, work area with quartz countertop, cabinets and even a hanging rack above the sink. You can bring groceries directly into the kitchen from the garage.”

More logical wow factor awaits in the bedroom wing in the form of a main bath that’s as lavish as most ensuites with its porcelain tile floor and tub, a big, bright, second bedroom – and opulent primary bedroom.

Again, both the bedroom and ensuite are awash in texture, warmth and, most importantly, function.

Classic design and modern elegance merge in the stunning family room.

“This is where the quality of the home’s design and finishes really stands out,” he says. “The grey porcelain tile floor goes perfectly with the dark cabinetry, which features built-in drawers underneath the TV nook and built-in closets for storage instead of a walk-in closet.”

Next comes the primary bedroom’s piece de resistance: a spacious and thoroughly opulent ensuite.

“You’re surrounded by tile as soon as you walk in — grey porcelain tile on the floor and the same charcoal tile on the walls,” says Crampton. “There’s a gorgeous walk-in shower with porcelain tile surround and rainfall shower head, and the floating, underlit vanity looks amazing.”

With a huge lower level that can hold a rec room, a full bath and two more bedrooms, the imaginatively designed bungalow is as practical as it is stylish, he adds.

“It’s perfect for a professional couple with kids or downsizers. Basically, we wanted to show how flexible, functional, and artistic our designs are. “We can work with any type of client to build the exact home that they want. With Maric, styles can change, but the quality and attention to detail always remains the same — it’s unmatched.”
