All four Atlantic provinces to mark Queen’s funeral Monday with holidays

HALIFAX – Provincial governments across Atlantic Canada have declared holidays in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service on Monday.

In Nova Scotia, it’s a provincial holiday where provincial government offices, public schools and regulated child care will be closed, while businesses will have the choice to remain open.

A provincial holiday for government workers is also in store in New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador, where all schools will also be closed.

Prince Edward Island will observe a one-time statutory holiday, meaning all schools and provincially regulated employees will be given a day off.

The province says it recognizes that many essential services and some employers will need to continue to operate as scheduled under the Employment Standards Act.

The four provinces announced their plans after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared today that Monday will be a federal holiday to mourn the queen on the day of her state funeral in London.
