Performed on a bare stage with no props, this two-person psychological thriller still manages to deliver the key ingredients critical to the genre: anticipation and slow dread. You know the horror is coming, so you keep watching for those first little cracks to appear.

Maryth Gilroy and Jason Broadfoot keep the audience hooked with their portrayals of Ms. Haviland, a nervous real estate agent trying to sell a mansion with a bloody history, and Dr. Simian, the detail-obsessed prospective buyer.

Director Michael Fera has likewise made some intriguing staging decisions, having the actors start off with their backs to the audience. Is there a reason we’re not seeing their faces? Maybe one of those faces is false. Maybe they both are. And be sure to listen to what’s playing on the piano at the end. It’s an extremely clever touch, and a bonus chill for those who know the song.
