Salisbury House restaurants is taking action to minimize its environmental impact by eliminating plastic straws, replacing them with a biodegradable alternative in every restaurant.
And straws are just the beginning.
Corporate chef and spokesperson, Jayanti Sharma said, “We will be looking at all aspects of our business over the coming years in an effort to reduce our environmental impact at Sals.”
In addition to reducing its use of plastics, Salisbury House is looking to source as much food supply locally and reduce its energy consumption.
According to National Geographic, straws rarely make it into the recycling bin and end up washed ashore on beaches around the world or entangled into marine animals and consumed by fish.
It takes up to 200 years for a plastic straw to decompose according to Get Green Now.
