On Remembrance Day, Canadians take time to honour the members of the Armed Forces who have served, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice for Canada.

The Free Press does not publish a print edition on Sunday, Nov. 11, or Monday, Nov. 12, but readers can visit winnipegfreepress.com for the latest news and information.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the Remembrance Day weekend. Here’s a selection:

SHOPPING

Most malls, including Polo Park shopping centre, Kildonan Place, and St. Vital Centre, will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, and will operate during regular store hours Monday.

Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and will be open for regular store hours Monday.

Cityplace will be closed Sunday. It will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday.

The Forks Market is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, and are back to regular store hours Monday.

Most Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will operate from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

The Manitoba Museum is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday.

The Children’s Museum is open from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and during regular hours Monday.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

Movie theatres are open during regular hours over the weekend.

RECYCLING AND TRASH

There are no changes to recycling and garbage collection.

The Brady Road landfill is closed Sunday, and open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All leisure centres are closed Sunday, and open for regular hours Monday.

The Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses are closed.

City of Winnipeg swimming pools will be closed Sunday, except for the Pan Am Pool and Margaret Grant Pool (both open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), and the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

All indoor pools will be open regular hours Monday.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

There will be no changes to transit service Sunday and Monday.

On Remembrance Day, veterans, current serving personnel, including reservists and cadets, will be able to ride Winnipeg Transit for free.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed Sunday and Monday.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday. Cemetery offices will be closed.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Sunday and Monday.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency will be closed Sunday, and open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday.

There is no mail delivery Sunday and Monday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
