WINNIPEG — The chiefs from several Island Lake area First Nations are holding a press conference this morning to discuss the plight of their residents in northern Manitoba.
The chiefs say they are “extremely disapointed and upset” with the federal government’s lack of action to what they describe as “deplorable living conditions.”
Chief Alex McDougall of Wasagamack, Chief Dino Flett of Garden Hill, Chief David McDougall of St. Theresa Point and Chief Larry Knott of Red Sucker Lake will attend the meeting at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Winnipeg.
The Free Press documented the lack of running water on northern Manitoba First Nations communities in the Island Lake region with an award-winning series last year.
