The top pick of the week is this rockumentary series on Disney Plus. It is based on a 2017 memoir written by Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones, that focuses on the genesis of his band. The six-part series hones in on three of the most chaotic years in the history of the music and why the band chose to challenge societal norms about what music should sound like.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 1

Angelyne

Anytime someone speaks out and against how they were portrayed in a new TV series or movie, it makes you want to watch it even more. It happened most recently when Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson lambasted the presentation of the Los Angeles Lakers in HBO’s “Winning Time,” and this is the case for “Angelyne” as well. Emmy Rossum from “Shameless” plays the title character, a Los Angeles billboard icon who some regard as being the original influencer before influencing was even a thing. This Peacock series, which will air on Showcase in Canada, is based on a 2017 Hollywood Reporter investigation which revealed Angelyne’s real name and her parents’ background as Holocaust survivors. There are reports that the title character initially authorized the depiction but has since renounced how she was presented in the series.

CBS plans to commemorate the Queen’s 70-year reign with a new look at the future of the British monarchy. “Her Majesty The Queen: A Gayle King Special” looks at the triumphs and tribulations of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The special coverage features interviews with those who know the Queen best (including Sir Paul McCartney) while also looking at the 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians who celebrated the night before. Of particular interest is the fact that the Queen’s relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be examined as well as what the future of the Royal Family looks like moving into the new year and beyond.
