Man who established ‘payment system’ for daughter’s sex acts pleads guilty

A Winnipeg man is facing a “significant” penitentiary sentence after admitting to paying his daughter for sex and threatening to turn his attention to her younger sister if she didn’t comply.

The 44-year-old man pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference for repeated offences against the victims over the span of nearly a decade, ending in 2023. He cannot be named in order to protect the identities of his victims.

Crown attorney Catherine Bator read out an agreed statement of facts for the court, after which the man entered his guilty pleas and acknowledged they were voluntary. The man will be sentenced at a later date following the completion of a court-ordered pre-sentence report.

“He’s aware it’s going to be a significant penitentiary sentence, correct?” asked provincial court Judge Kusham Sharma, to which the man replied yes.

Trailblazing Canadian model Dayle Haddon dies from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning

NEW HOPE, Pa. (AP) — Dayle Haddon, a Canadian-born actor, activist and trailblazing former “Sports Illustrated” model who pushed back against age discrimination by reentering the industry as a widow, has died in a Pennsylvania home from what authorities believe was carbon monoxide poisoning.

Authorities in Bucks County found Haddon, 76, dead in a second-floor bedroom Friday morning after emergency dispatchers were notified about a person unconscious at the Solebury Township home. A 76-year-old man police later identified as Walter J. Blucas of Erie was hospitalized in critical condition.

Responders detected a high level of carbon monoxide in the property and township police said Saturday that investigators determined that “a faulty flue and exhaust pipe on a gas heating system caused the carbon monoxide leak.” Two medics were taken to a hospital for carbon monoxide exposure and a police officer was treated at the scene.
