The cases against two teen girls charged in the weekend killing of a young woman on Sagkeeng First Nation has been adjourned.
Neither of the accused appeared in court Wednesday at the Manitoba Youth Centre. Their cases were adjourned until May 9.
The teens, aged 16 and 17, are charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 19-year-old woman who has been identified by family and friends as Serena McKay. She allegedly suffered a brutal beating that was recorded. The video showed a woman being repeatedly kicked and was posted on a social-media site.
An RCMP spokesman said Tuesday police have obtained the video, but he couldn’t confirm it showed the victim.
RCMP said in a statement the victim was last seen Saturday by a family friend and reported missing Sunday. While Mounties were searching the community, a call came in saying a woman’s body had been found near a home in Sagkeeng.
