Cinematheque (Venue 7), to Friday

Old fart Fred Heinrichs has had his share of trouble with the department of motor vehicles and Autopac. Throughout a career as a courier and a taxi driver, he’s been hauled in for retesting multiple times, had his licence suspended for speeding too often and battled Autopac over payouts. This is his account of an eventful life as a good driver hassled by bad government.

It’s a fairly gentle rant delivered by a natural, fluid storyteller clearly at home on a stage. Oddly enough, it’s kind of compelling in its comfortable familiarity.

Trouble is, it’s not a fringe show. It’s a sweet, mildly interesting older gent who corners you at the Tims and won’t give you an opening to extricate yourself. Someone needs to give Heinrichs a real part. He might steal the show.

From the official Fringe Festival program:

Dumping on the Department of Motor Vehicles. Complaining about Autopac. Blasting bureaucracy. Fighting the good fight, and failing. If you really want to see them, I can even show you the scars.
