Thousands of Winnipeggers solemnly marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War on Sunday, Remembrance Day.

It was an especially poignant day for Silver Cross Mother Anita Cenerini, who is from Winnipeg. She placed a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Her son, Thomas Welsh, died May 8, 2004, three months after returning from his mission in Afghanistan. He was the first Canadian soldier to die by suicide after serving in the war in Afghanistan.
