Nothing new to report in deadly shootings, police say

WINNIPEG police had no news on Friday about the search for the suspect — or suspects — who killed two men in a trio of apparently random shootings one week ago.

Although police said they were not able to release anything new about the investigation on Friday afternoon, spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen confirmed that the force is “very motivated” to find whoever is responsible for the slayings of Ian McDonald, 52, and Tommy Beardy, 35.

The victims were shot outside North End homes on Oct. 23. Another victim, Samantha Stevenson, 13, is recovering from injuries sustained when she was blasted while hanging out on Stella Walk.

Police have previously announced they are looking for a suspect, or suspects, that fit the description of an aboriginal male, between 5-9 and 6-0 tall, who was wearing dark clothing on the night of the shootings and possibly riding a bicycle.

Police have ramped up resources in the North End, installing a mobile command centre at Selkirk Avenue and Andrews Street and diverting more police to the area.

Crime Stoppers has also offered a $6,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest for all three shootings. That’s the biggest reward in the anonymous tip-line’s history.
