Premier Heather Stefanson wouldn’t promise to go to Thompson ahead of Tuesday’s provincial byelection but managed to give a shout-out to her party’s candidate.

“Charlotte Laroque is doing an amazing job up there in the community,” Stefanson told reporters Wednesday.

Larocque is a former Thompson chamber of commerce president who ran for the federal Tories in the September election.

“I would love to get up there, obviously,” said Stefanson who didn’t know if her calendar allowed her to go to the constituency prior to the vote. “We’ll certainly be reaching out to her. She’s an amazing candidate.”

NDP Leader Wab Kinew missed question period Tuesday and Wednesday to campaign in northern Manitoba for NDP candidate Eric Redhead.

The seat became vacant following the Dec. 9 highway accident that claimed the life of Danielle Adams who had been elected for the NDP in 2019.
