A man arrested in October after another man was struck by a vehicle is facing an upgraded charge of attempted murder, police say.

Winnipeg Police Service officers were sent to the parking lot of a hotel on the 1000 block of McPhillips Street on Aug. 3, 2025 at 3 a.m. to check on a man who was hit by a vehicle.

Police said the victim, 40, and accused, 51, who did not know each other, got into an argument in the parking lot. As the victim walked away, the accused hit him with his vehicle, police said. The victim got up but was hit a second time before the accused drove off, police said.

The victim was sent to hospital in stable condition.

The accused was originally arrested on Oct. 9, 2025 and charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and uttering threats. He was released on an appearance notice.

The man was re-arrested Tuesday by the major crimes unit and faces the upgraded charges on the advice of the Manitoba Prosecution Service.

He was released on an undertaking.
