Ballet dancers and other artists will be United for Ukraine in a concert presented by TO Live and Attila Glatz Concert Productions.

The event was conceived by former National Ballet of Canada principal dancer Sonia Rodriguez, current principal dancer Heather Ogden, former Royal Winnipeg Ballet principal Evelyn Hart and pianist Attila Glatz.

Glatz was a boy in Hungary at the time of the 1956 uprising against Soviet invaders and escaped to the West in 1968.

“The fact that we present concerts in a country where we don’t have to worry for our safety shows how fortunate we are,” he said in a news release. “We have a real opportunity now — 3,200 of us do — to come together at Meridian Hall on April 28 to show our solidarity with the people of Ukraine.”

All net proceeds of the concert will go to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, which supports Ukrainian families displaced from their homes.

Performers include Ukrainian violinist Vasyl Popadiuk and the Papa Duke Band; Rodriguez, Ogden and National Ballet dancers Guillaume Côté, Svetlana Lunkina, Brendan Saye, Jurgita Dronina, Harrison James and Spencer Hack; dancers from the Ukrainian company Kalyna Performing Arts, Indigenous company Red Sky Performance and Barvinok Ukrainian Dance School; Ukrainian women’s choir Vesnivka; and opera singers Lara Ciekiewicz, Natalya Gennadi and James McLennan.

The show takes place April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Meridian Hall. See tolive.com for tickets.
