Ottawa Centre

Previously a longtime NDP riding, Ottawa Centre switched to the Liberals in 2015 under Catherine McKenna, a cabinet minister who decided not to seek re-election. The NDP will be trying to regain this prime piece of political real estate while the Liberals work to keep the riding red with a former provincial minister as their candidate.

Main challengers:Liberal candidate Yasir Naqvi, former attorney general of Ontario; Conservative candidate Carol Clemenhagen, a former health-care industry executive; NDP candidate Angella MacEwen, a labour economist; and Green party candidate Angela Keller-Herzog, an economist and owner of a bed and breakfast.

Election history:The riding has shifted between the Liberals and NDP over the past four decades. The New Democrats last took hold of Ottawa Centre from 2004 to 2015, until Liberal McKenna ended their streak.

Fun fact:Many public sector workers live in this riding. The northern part of the riding contains many government office buildings and includes Parliament Hill.
