BELL MTS is expanding its all-fibre broadband network to seven more communities in rural Manitoba.

More than 6,500 spots in Blumenort, Ile des Chênes, Landmark, Matlock, St. Adolphe, Stony Mountain and Winnipeg Beach will be connected, Bell MTS announced Monday.

The company is also nearing completion of its network builds in Altona, Plum Coulee, Emerson and Morris.

“Access to high-speed, more reliable broadband will allow residents, businesses and families to more easily participate in the digital economy,” Wes Taplin, the Rural Municipality of Rockwood’s reeve, said in a news release.

Since 2020, Bell will have invested roughly $14 billion in capital expenditures on rolling out new networks, including planned spending of approximately $5 billion this year, the company said Monday.

It touts internet download speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps through the fibre network.

Bell MTS is part of BCE, Canada’s largest communications company.

Earlier this year, a flurry of service complaints regarding Bell MTS landline outages led the CRTC to demand regular updates from the service provider about such outages.

At the time, Bell MTS blamed the outages on record levels of rain and snow in Winnipeg.
