The Winnipeg police guns and gangs unit has arrested six people in three drug trafficking cases.

In a bust on Clayton Drive Sunday, police say they found numerous firearms, a crossbow, 42 grams of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, ecstasy and bear spray.

Other drugs that were seized will be sent to Health Canada for further testing, said Const. Jay Murray, adding the street value is in excess of $200,000.

A 40-year-old man was charged with several offences and was detained in custody.

Murray said it’s not uncommon for police to seize a crossbow in such searches.

“Firearms and other weapons often come from residential break-ins, so when a thief comes across a crossbow or another unorthodox weapon, it becomes a crime of opportunity and is sometimes taken.”

The guns and gangs unit, which was created in 2019 to combat rising levels of gang-related violence, has taken a “a substantial number of illegally possessed firearms and illicit drugs off the streets,” Murray said.

In the second case, police said the probe that began last month culminated with a search warrant for a suite at an apartment on the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue.

The following items were seized: 73.5 grams of cocaine, 8.3 grams of meth, ammunition and a stash of weapons, including a loaded sawed-off 12-gauge Maverick shotgun, a loaded sawed-off .22-calibre Remington rifle, a loaded .22-calibre Mossberg rifle and a prohibited .25 calibre Colt handgun.

A 21-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man faces a slew of charges.

A woman, 29, was processed on outstanding warrants.

All were detained in custody.

The third investigation involves two men suspected of trafficking cocaine, which police believed was being stored at two locations: a condo on the 1100 block of St. Anne’s Road and units at a nearby storage facility.

On Sept. 1, a man and woman were found at the storage unit and arrested.

Police searched the condo and storage units and say they found cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl $36,000 in cash, a pill press, safe, stolen power tools and break-in tools.

Three people are charged: a a 62-year-old man from Winnipeg, 61-year-old woman from Morris and a 33-year-old man from Winnipeg.

The 33-year-old was detained and the other two accused were released, police said.
