Winnipeg police say three assaults on men that took place in the Main Street area over the span of a few hours are believed to be related.
Police responded to an assault at a Main Street parking lot between Jarvis and Sutherland avenues at about 4:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a request for a well-being check.
They found a man suffering from “severe bodily injuries.” He was taken to hospital and remains in critical condition, police said.
About 30 minutes later, police were called to a back lane near the Bell Hotel on Main Street where a man had been seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital in unstable condition, police said.
Officers who were patrolling near Logan Avenue and the Disraeli Freeway came across a third injured man at about 5:30 a.m.
The victim told officers he had been assaulted. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.
The major crimes unit is investigating the attacks. Police believe the crimes are related, although they would not say who was involved or why the victims were targeted.
“That’s what we are trying to figure out at this point. It’s very early on in the investigation and until we have more information…we won’t be able to ascertain or bring a motive for the assaults,” said Const. Claude Chancy.
No arrests have been made.
Police are asking anyone with information to call police at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.
