Manitoba has no immediate plans to expand access to fourth doses of COVID-19 vaccines for front-line health-care workers and younger Manitobans.
As other jurisdictions deal with surges in the transmission of Omicron subvariant BA.5, many leaders are fielding calls to ramp up the booster rollouts and make fourth shots easier to access.
Asked Tuesday whether Manitoba is considering expanding vaccine availability this summer, a provincial government spokesperson said there are no new plans to announce.
“Public Health continues to closely monitor COVID-19 in Manitoba. There are no updates to public health advice at this time and if required, changes will be provided accordingly,” the statement reads.
During his last public appearance in May, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer announced fourth doses were being rolled out to Manitobans older than 50 and First Nations residents older than 30.
Previously, they were available on a case-by-case basis to people who are severely immunocompromised, and certain international travellers, as well as personal care home residents.
At the time, Roussin said the vaccine task force would re-evaluate its rollout this fall, with no plans to widen fourth dose availability before then.
