A Winnipeg woman is organizing a volunteer task force to hold the Manitoba government accountable for the COVID-19 outbreak at Maples Long Term Care Home last fall.

Fifty-six residents died in the outbreak at Maples, which was declared Oct. 20 and lasted nearly three months.

Eddie Calisto-Tavares, an advocate whose father was among the 56 victims, announced Wednesday she will be forming a volunteer task force to hold the province accountable for the outbreak, and called for a public inquiry into Maples.

Eddie Calisto-Tavares is forming a volunteer task force made up of people who lost family members at Maples care home, and have nursing backgrounds or witnessed the conditions there. (Global)
