Former Winnipeg Jets winger Evander Kane has filed for bankruptcy, despite earning nearly $53 million in his NHL career, reports say.

Kane, now with the San Jose Sharks, has somehow incurred debts of $26.8 million, according to a story from The Athletic.

There is a possibility the 29-year-old skips the upcoming season, although he has been at Sharks’ training camp.

The Vancouver product spent six seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers/Jets franchise before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres and later the Sharks.

He signed a seven-year, $49 million contract extension with San Jose prior to the 2018-19 campaign.
