Chris Streveler is poised to takes his talents to the NFL

The CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Monday they have released the veteran dual-threat quarterback to pave the way for him to pursue opportunities south of the border.

The 25-year-old Crystal Lake, Ill., product had workouts last month with at least three NFL teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Thanks so much to the Bombers, the city of Winnipeg and all the fans across Manitoba,” said Streveler in a release from the club. “I’m really going to miss it up there, but I’ll be around! The memories and friendships made will last forever. Thanks for everything the last two years, it was an amazing ride!”

Streveler, a two-year veteran, was scheduled to become a CFL free agent on Feb. 12. His game-breaking abilities had a major impact on the Blue Bombers en route to ending the club’s 28-year Grey Cup drought in 2019.

During a 35-14 win over the Calgary Stampeders in the West Division semfinal, for instance, he rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Streveler was sixth in the CFL in rushing last season with 726 rushing yards with a 5.7-yards per carry average. He also tied for the league lead with 12 rushing majors.
