Concert will aid musicians who lost gear in fire

A Winnipeg music venue has announced it will host a benefit concert next week to raise money for the local musicians impacted by the recent Jarvis Avenue fire.

On July 22, a massive fire destroyed the building at 274 Jarvis Ave. The warehouse was declared a total loss and the cause of the fire remains unclear at this time.

Located in the North End, the property served as the home to some of Winnipeg’s most distinguished artists. Numerous bands lost musical gear in the blaze and some artists lost decades worth of work.

Winnipeg’s Park Theatre, located on the 600 block of Osborne Street, has announced plans to host a benefit concert Friday, Aug. 2, in an effort to help some of the impacted musicians.

“The Park Theatre will match every admission paid in advance or at the door, so let’s pack the place to help raise as much funds as possible,” reads the event page posted to the venue’s social media account.

“There will also be a silent auction with a wide array of items donated by our many amazing sponsors.”

The concert, which will feature five different acts, will run from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go toward the bands who lost musical gear in the blaze.

The event is being sponsored by Manitoba Music and Dub Pitch Panic. The acts are: The Sorels; Dinner Club; One of Us; Trevor Buckley; The Great Steelhand.

In addition, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to raise money for the affected artists. As of Thursday afternoon, there had been $4,663 raised.
