A woman and a female teen have been arrested after separate robbery sprees at liquor stores in which employees and customers were threatened, and in several cases attacked with bear-spray.

The arrests come in the wake of reports that thieves hit up Liquor Marts 1,300 times in the last year, totalling about $800,000 in theft.

In recent days, Winnipeg police have been able to arrest some of the suspects.

Police said Wednesday that from July 17 to Sept. 18, a teenage girl went to several Liquor Marts and walked out of the stores with several bottles of liquor without paying.

The suspect is believed to have taken $4,050 worth of liquor during nine robberies.

During one incident the suspect threw a bottle at a security guard and another at a customer before fleeing, police said. In another incident, the suspect turned a bottle upside down before threatening a store employee.

The teen was arrested on Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m., after a short foot chase in the 1100 block of Garfield Street in the West End.

Police also arrested a woman, who is a suspect in numerous liquor store robberies, at a West St. Paul residence on Tuesday afternoon.

In that case, police said a woman went to 18 city liquor stores from April 18 and July 1, picked up several liquor bottles, and left without paying for them.

About $5,150 worth of alcohol was stolen during the incidents.

During six of the robberies, the woman sprayed staff and customers with bear spray and threatened to spray employees during two other robberies, police said.

Markie Haley Seymour, 28, of Winnipeg, and a 16-year-old female have each been charged with several theft and robbery offences. Both were detained in custody.
