Bombers turn down Rabb, Katz’s choice for team’s board of directors

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers board of directors said no to city businessman Jeff Rabb last night.

The Bombers board voted to deny Mayor Sam Katz’s choice of appointee as a member of their board.

Bombers chairman Brock Bulbuck explained the decision in an email sent to the mayor and Rabb.

“I am writing to inform you that by a unanimous vote of those present (with the Provincial Representative having recused himself from both the discussion and the vote), the Board of the Winnipeg Football Club tonight resolved to not elect Mr. Rabb to the WFC Board,” wrote Bulbuck in his email.

“The primary reasoning for the Board’s decision was the fact that Mr. Rabb does not have a senior city administration position, as previously discussed with both of you. This discussion and vote was held ‘in camera’ without Management present.”

Bulbuck had previously asked Katz to reconsider his choice and suggested three city staffers the board would look more favourably upon. Katz asked senior city employees Kenny Boyce, Krista Boryskavich and Deepak Joshi if they would volunteer to be his appointee on the board and all three declined.

Both the city and provinical government were given seats on the board after they financed the building of the new stadium.
