Voters in a trio of upcoming byelections in Winnipeg do not have to wait until Nov. 26 to cast their ballots.

Two Saturdays from now, voters in St. Vital will choose a new councillor to succeed the departed Gord Steeves, while residents of Winnipeg School Division’s Ward 1 and Louis Riel School Division’s Ward 2 will choose successors to Joyce Bateman and Mike Ducharme, respectively.

Voters in all three byelections who are unable to vote in person or are expected to be absent form the city on Nov. 26 may vote by sealed-envelope ballot. In order to do so, voters must obtain an application from the city. There are four ways to do so:

Mail: Write to “Senior election official” at the City Clerk’s department, Council Building, 510 Main St., Winnipeg, R3B 1B9

In person: Visit the city clerk’s office at the Council Building, 510 Main Street

The deadline for obtaining applications is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Completed ballots must be returned to the senior election official by 8 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Voters in any of the byelections may also cast ballots in advance at three following locations:

Dakota Community Centre (1188 Dakota St.)

Thursday, Nov. 17: 1 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 18: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre (26 Molgat Ave.)

Sunday, Nov. 20: Noon to 6 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 21: 1 to 8 p.m.

Grant Park High School (450 Nathaniel St.)

Friday, Nov. 18: 1 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 19 : 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 20: Noon to 6 p.m.

Finally voters who can not mark a paper ballot with a pen can use an audio-tactile interface, a sip-and-puff device or a paddle button to vote at any of the advance locations, at the times listed above.

Braille and large-print candidate listings will be available at all voting locations, the city says.
