A 22-year-old University of Manitoba student plans to join the race to replace longtime St. Vital Coun. Gord Steeves.

Dan Fingler, a political studies major, announced his plan to run in the upcoming St. Vital byelecton Sunday morning. Fingler is the son of Leslie Fingler, who ran against Steeves in 2006 and won 17 per cent of the vote.

Progressive Conservative Greg Nordman and New Democrat Brian Mayes have already announced they will run in the fall byelection.

Steeves is expected to resign his seat in the next few weeks. The longtime councillor plans to run for the provincial Conservatives in Seine River in the Oct. 4 election.
