The name is Gatsby, of the Great variety. I came to be a part of the Manitoba Underdogs Rescue family after I spent weeks avoiding capture. I had been quilled by a porcupine, and I was hurting and scared. Finally, I couldn’t run any more. I didn’t know then how happy I would be in this family.

You may have heard of me if you follow Manitoba Underdogs on social media. I’m kind of a big deal. I came in severely emaciated, dehydrated, with injured legs, heartworm-positive, Lyme-positive and I had a nasty pneumothorax to boot.

The team refused to give up on me, though and, while managing my pain, slowly watched me achieve every milestone. The odds weren’t in my favour but I knew I could make it when I was surrounded by as much love as I was. I have since recovered from my heartworm, Lyme and my pneumothorax. I had ligament repair surgery to fix my back right leg and I wear a brace on my back left leg whenever I’m awake. I take Flexadin (a joint supplement) daily for my permanent arthritis.

Now, I’m no spring chicken. I’ve seen my fair share of life so I’m looking to find myself a nice, comfortable retirement home. I am not a “kennel” kind of a dog but can be trusted loose in the house as I am fully house trained. I have worked a little on my leash manners and I’m generally a dog who likes to stroll.

I get along with calm and respectful dogs (I’m well past my “partying with puppies” age). Having a confident dog around can definitely help me come out of my shell. Kids are a bit too loud and fast for me at this point, and I think I’ve earned my peace and quiet.

I am a super-chill guy who is up for a nice cup of coffee on the couch. I’ll take a puppaccino any time! My foster says I’m the best dude to hang out with and I’m a really great listener. I’m nervous of new people and I’m never going to be a lap-dog kind of guy, but I promise once we are family, you will get tail wags every morning.

If you think you fit the bill, you should apply at manitobaunderdogs.org to meet me!
