A man has been charged in connection with a sexual assault at a bus shelter last weekend.

The attack happened at the rapid transit station at Pembina Highway and Chancellor Drive at about midnight Saturday. A stranger confronted a woman in her 20s inside the shelter and threatened her at knifepoint and told her to undress, the Winnipeg Police Service said. She was physically attacked and sexually assaulted.

The attacker was scared off by an arriving bus, and he ran away with some of the victim’s property.

Police were already searching for a suspect in two separate, violent robberies at a bus stop in Tyndall Park when the WPS sex crimes unit identified him as a suspect in the sex assault.

Jayden Isreal Kennedy, 18, was arrested at a home in the first 100 block of Foxberry Bay on Tuesday and is in custody.

An 18-year-old man was slashed with a knife and punched before he was robbed at a bus stop at Keewatin Street and Burrows Avenue on Nov. 2. Two days later, a man in his 20s was attacked with a knife before being robbed.

Kennedy is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, robbery, uttering threats and possession of a weapon, among other offences.
