Five fires break out across the city on Thanksgiving, no injuries reported

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to five residential fires which broke out across the city from Sunday evening through Monday morning.

The firefighters were called to the 300 block of Alfred Avenue at 5:46 p.m. on Sunday where a single-storey home was on fire. Heavy black smoke and flames were coming from the house, the crew said.

The fire was tackled from inside the house and brought under control at 5:54 p.m. The house was empty at the time of the incident.

At 8:22 p.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey home in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue. The fire was tackled from inside and was brought under control at 8:39 p.m.

The occupants were evacuated safely.

On Monday morning, three incidents of fire were reported.

Crews were called in to douse a fire in a four-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue. The fire was tackled from inside the house and brought under control at 5:51 a.m.

Everyone who was inside got out safely.

Later, at 5:37 a.m., crews tended to a fire in a vacant house in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw very heavy smoke and large flames coming from the house. Firefighters worked to douse the fire from the outside until it was safe to work from the inside. The fire was under control in about an hour.

Residents in two neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Further, WFPS were called to the 200 block of Gordon Avenue at 7:56 a.m. to douse a fire in a two-storey townhouse. The fire was brought under control at 8:21 a.m.

The residents who were displaced due to the fires were offered alternate housing with help from Emergency Social Services team.

No one was reported injured. The incidents are under investigation.
