Health minister in Southdale sans couch

AT a park in her Southdale constituency on a beautiful summer day Thursday, Health Minister Audrey Gordon was there — but there was no sign of her couch.

In April, Gordon posted a notice on social media telling constituents she’d haul around a couch to parks and green spaces for “sofa conversations” with them.

Summer is winding down, but there’s been no sign of her sofa.

On Thursday, the cabinet minister was at Southland Park — not to chat with constituents, but to announce park improvements for the area. She was joined by Shawn Nason, city councillor for Transcona.

Gordon was asked at the media event if she has taken her sofa to any Southdale green spaces for conversations.

“Yet to be rolled out,” Gordon said.

The delay hasn’t been due to a lack of demand, she said when asked last month.

She said a number of constituents had called the office and were looking forward to having her “in the community in this forum, and it’s really the inclement weather.”
