After promising to reveal her plan to address the massive surgical and diagnostic backlog this week, Health Minister Audrey Gordon said Manitobans must continue to wait.
She said an announcement will be made Wednesday.
Gordon said the postponement was needed to accommodate surgeons who will participate in the new task force.
“We’re working with the schedules of several individuals, and some are surgeons, and the priority is to ensure that Manitobansget the surgeries that they need,” Gordon said.
“We’ve been able to free up their schedules so that they can be publicly and in person with me on Wednesday.”
Gordon said the task force will adopt recommendations made by Doctors Manitoba to report publicly on its progress, and to a set time frame to clear the backlog.
Doctors Manitoba estimates more than 130,000 surgeries and procedures have been delayed due to the pandemic.
Gordon has said her government decided to assemble a task force after hearing from front-line health-care workers as well as organizations that represent patients, physicians, surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals.
