RED DEER, Alta. – Police say the organizer of a pro-Trump rally in Red Deer, Alta., has been charged for ignoring public health rules.

RCMP say in a news release that they were called around noon Wednesday to a protest near City Hall Park.

About 30 people were gathered to demonstrate against the election results in the United States.

Police say the downtown patrol unit went to monitor and do enforcement at the event.

Officers found it was in contravention of public health guidelines, which prohibit outdoor gatherings.

They say the organizer was charged under the Public Health Act and is to appear in court on April 28.

Police say after they responded to the event most people left the rally.
