Bahamian police are investigating new allegations of sexual assault against Winnipeg-based fashion magnate Peter Nygard, reports CBC investigative program The Fifth Estate.

No charges have been laid in the investigation, which reportedly involves four women who allege Nygard sexually assaulted them when they were under the age of 16, the Bahamian legal age of consent.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force did not respond to requests for comment from the Free Press on Saturday. The police force’s commissioner confirmed to CBC that Nygard was under investigation, but would not confirm whether the investigation involved sexual assault, according to a report published Friday evening.

Doneth Cartwright, a Bahamian lawyer representing the four women, told CBC the assaults took place as recently as 2015 during parties at Nygard’s home on the island. Cartwright did not respond to requests for comment on Saturday.

A lawyer for Nygard told CBC the investigation “will go nowhere,” and portrayed the allegations as part of a conspiracy against his client.

The Fifth Estate report comes on the heels of a class-action lawsuit against Nygard filed Thursday in New York. The lawsuit alleges Nygard sexually assaulted ten women, some younger than 18, at his Bahamas home over a period of years. The allegeations against Nygard have not been proven in court.
