The Winnipeg Goldeyes will welcome back one of their most reliable arms in 2020.
Right-handed relief pitcher Victor Capellan re-signed with the Fish on Thursday, making him the first player to ink a deal for the upcoming season.
Capellan — a 30-year-old Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic native — is coming off of an all-star campaign where he had 27 saves, a franchise record, while going 1-1 with a 3.16 ERA. Capellan was traded to the Atlantic League’s York Revolution at the end of last season, where he had a 1.69 ERA in 11 appearances and helped York reach the playoffs.
Capellan returns for his fifth season with the Goldeyes and is the club’s all-time leader in saves. He also owns the American Association record for career appearances with 242. Capellan is one of eight players who played on the Goldeyes’ 2016 and 2017 championship teams.
