City police say a man who was assaulted and taken to hospital early Sunday has died, marking the city’s 20th homicide of the year.

Around 4:35 a.m., officers responded to a call at Arlington Street and Notre Dame and found an injured man.

Police said officers were investigating the possibility the incident was connected to two other assaults that happened earlier.

Around 3:45 a.m., officers responded to a call about an assault at Portage Avenue and Spence Street.

They found an injured man.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition but was later upgraded to stable.

Around the same time, a man was assaulted on the 400 block of Langside Street, which is a short distance away. He was initially in critical condition, but was later upgraded to stable.

No other details were released.
