The city will provide free transit service to veterans, active members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their friends and families on Remembrance Day.
To use the free bus service, people are required to show the bus operator a military identification, a CF1 card or wear a military uniform, plus identify accompanying friends and family members.
The service is expected to cost $10,000 and will come from the city’s Civic Initiatives Fund.
The idea was first raised this week by Free Press columnist Gordon Sinclair Jr.
Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Parking Authority is offering free parking at the Millennium Library to vehicles bearing veteran licence plates on Remembrance Day. Parking at the library is an additional option for vets attending the ceremony at the Convention Centre. The library is connected to the Convention Centre via the Skywalk.
