As we are now in the depths of the winter season, it can be difficult to find fun activities to take part in, but here are a few you should know about:

• This year, in lieu of the Breakfast with Santa, Dakota Community Centre will be hosting a Skate with Santa event on Dec. 23. Families can enjoy a great winter activity and get their pictures taken with Santa Claus.

•  The St. Norbert Arts Centre is holding Community Sundays in December, featuring activities including an outdoor winter wonderland, featuring a bonfire, snow art, ice sculptures, hot apple cider, and much more.

This year, the Manitoba legislature hosted a virtual ceremony in remembrance of the 14 women who tragically lost their lives 32 years ago at École Polytechnique in Montréal. Dec. 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women and marks the anniversary of this tragic act.

Recently, our provincial government wrapped up the fourth session of the 42nd legislature. The legislative session began with a speech from the throne which focused on a commitment to working together with all Manitobans to build a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive province.

Areas highlighted includes a more sustainable health-care system; providing greater supports for families, seniors, and vulnerable Manitobans; improving education and training opportunities; and laying the groundwork to foster investment, job creation, and economic growth while continuing to confront the challenges owing to COVID-19.

Consultations with Manitobans regarding Budget 2022 have begun. In preparation for the upcoming budget, it’s important to hear from as many Manitobans as possible. Public meetings, town halls and an online survey are available. Participation and feedback from the private and public sectors are encouraged and an important part of the budget process. To access the survey, visit EngageMB.ca

Manitobans can also pre-register to reserve spots for an in-person meeting or to receive a phone call to participate in a telephone town hall. To register by phone, call Manitoba government inquiries at 204-945-3744 or toll-free at 1-866-626-4862. Feedback can also be emailed to budget2022@gov.mb.ca

Building Sustainable Communities and Green Team grant applications are online and being accepted until Jan. 17, 2022. In closing I’d like to wish everyone and their families a happy holiday season, merry Christmas, and a happy new year!
