Transcona Food Security Network meeting on Jan. 12

The Transcona Food Security Network will be holding its next meeting on Thurs., Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church (209 Yale Ave. W). The group intends to share information and make connections while addressing food security issues in the community.

“This will be a tough winter for people and we know that food insecurity is real,” Carol Fletcher, team minister for the Transcona Memorial United Church wrote in an email. “Working together maybe we can make a difference in our community.”

East St. Paul winter photo contest now open

East St. Paul residents are invited to submit winter photos to the RM’s winter photo contest.

The contest is designed to get residents out and about in the community and to showcase the natural beauty of East St. Paul.

“While out and about in East St Paul, take a moment to snap a winter picture on your phone,” organizers wrote in an email. “It could be along your favourite walking trail, park or even your own backyard.”

Residents can submit photos to administration@eaststpaul.com until Sun., Jan. 22. A winner will be chosen at random to win a gift basket. For more information, visit eaststpaul.com

Mârdi Jazz events to be held at CCFM this winter

Centre culturel franco-manitobain’s Mârdi Jazz series returns this month — and there should be something for everyone.

According to the centre’s website, Suzanne Kennelly will appear on Tues., Jan. 17, while Erin Propp is scheduled to take to the stage on Tues., Jan. 31.

The following month will see Rickson Makwe perform on Tues., Feb. 14, while members of University of Manitoba Jazz Orchestra are lined up for Tues., Feb. 28.

All performances will be held at CCFM (340 Provencher Blvd.) and will start at 8 p.m. Admission is $12.
