Goodbye 2022, hello 2023

The new year offers an opportunity to build on our successes and grow together as a people, and 2023 promises to be a richly rewarding year.

Over the last two months we engaged in numerous landmark celebrations hosted by local organizations and some of our constituents, including Indians, Iranians, Chinese, Filipinos and Bangladeshis. However, it was a sombre occasion on Remembrance Day when I joined Premier Heather Stefanson, Mayor Scott Gillingham, and local dignitaries at a wreath-laying ceremony.

The provincial government’s significant efforts towards infrastructure development continue to yield results as we hit key milestones on two building projects in Waverley. A sod-turning ceremony was held at 250 Centre St. in Bridgwater Centre, a project which will provide over 100 affordable housing units, and then there was the exciting announcement of The EpiCentre, an amazing $200-million investment in a series of six multi-purpose residential and commercial buildings in the heart of Bridgwater Town Centre.

As part of our commitment towards spotlighting our people, I was pleased to host Waverley constituent Glenn Nanka and his family at the Manitoba Legislature. Glenn has a passion for working with special-needs children and helping kids play sports in our community. Several outstanding community members in the constituency of Waverley were also honoured with The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal as a recognition of their ongoing service and dedication to our community.

We also hosted several constituents at the McDonald’s in Waverley Heights for coffee and conversation. This meet-up was followed up with a great turnout at South Winnipeg Community Centre’s annual Breakfast with Santa event. It was also heartwarming to see everyone who honored the invitation for the Christmas open house we hosted at our constituency office. I absolutely enjoy spending time with the amazing people who make up our community.

On a closing note, I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been nominated as the Waverley Progressive Conservative candidate in the upcoming provincial election. As my family, friends, and supporters, you are the reason I keep showing up, and I am grateful for your faith in my service to you and the constituency of Waverley.
